He sighs, looking back through the garden. "I suppose you know what you're doing with it." not really caring, figuring any crippling factors that come from the herbs can be reversed rather easily through magic.

((Not unless they've recently found a magical cure for mental retardation. Because seriously, that's what absinthe will do to you after a while. And Jesse's been making it ever since he arrived at school.))
He nodded, and sighed again, lifting one fragil-looking hand to his forehead in one fluid, melodramatic movement. His hand made a 'plash'ing sound as it hit. "You go and do that," he muttered, then proceeded to giggle. Not chuckle, or laugh, but giggle.

((^^()()() whee-ness. Caith's not really thinking about that.)) He blinks. "You like the prospect of loosing your mind?"

He shook his head, emphatically. "Nah. Lost already, isn't it? Not much left to go. Better fate than what's ahead of me." And he nodded, somehow managing to look wise, careworn, and cheerful all at once.

For a few minutes he said nothing, eyeing Caith up and down. Then he chuckled. "You're really cute. You'll make someone happy, someday. I know it." Annnnd...yes! A successful I'm-uncomfortable-let's-change-the-subject'!

((Oh god. Sorry! I forgot all about this! Problems with school, as usual.)) |Even in his current state of inebriation, Jesse was perceptive. He noticed the slight frown, the eyebrows that suddenly turned inwards, the way tiny wwrinkles appeared at the corners of his eyes. Caith was too young to have those wrinkles. Then again, Jesse got them, too, when he was upset. So what did that say about his life? "I said something wrong. Tell me?"|

((^^() s'ok)) He sighed. "Nothing too terrible... you wouldn't know. I was married, but I lost her a few years ago... along with my unborn child."

"'Nothing too terrible'? You poor man. You lose two people you love and you don't grieve." Jesse sighed, turned to the Snapdragon, his eyes dilated. That couldn't have been healthy. "...My mother was killed shortly after I was weaned. The offficial story is that she died in childbirth, but Father kept her for a few years, just to make sure that I was healthy and strong. Then he killed her." Jesse's smile was crooked, bitter. "Of course...I didn't exactly turn out to be his perfect soldier now, did I?" He spread his thin arms and legs wide, finely muscled, but lacking the bulk to do any severe damage.

He blinks... "Perfect soldier... You too, then...? And as far as the grieving... I've done plenty of that." He sighs. "I've become rather accustomed to loosing those I care for, though. When I said 'Nothing too terrible', I was referring to what you said."

He blinked, slowly and thoughtfully. "What do you mean, 'you too'? What were you trained in? You were trained, right? What did you have to do?" Every question, rapidly spat out, was made out of honest curiosity. Jesse, having never known anyone like himself, was eager to see if the Dark Lord's son had had a better upbringing than he.

"Everything and anything he could get me to learn. Potions, spells, transfiguration... even a few forms of muggle fighting." He sighed. "Back then I would've done just about anything to please him... not that I really had much of a choice..."

He laughed. "No one has a choice about what they learn. It just happens, whether you want it to or not. Me? I learned everything. If it was written down, I learned it. If it was spoken, I learned it. The Unforgivables, the Raptumens, potions, herbology...I'm horrible at transfiguration, though. Father gave up on trying to teach me to become an animagus. A few times, I knew what I was, but couldn't actually transform." He sighed, wistfully. "I would have been a pine marten. I looked it up, afterwards. Have you ever seen one? They look rather like weasels, but...softer." He straightened up, smiling at Caith. "Do you know what you are?"
